Mailchimp & Shopify Are Breaking Up! What eMail Marketing Platform Should You Migrate To?

Today, Mailchimp announced the termination of their relationship with Shopify. Mailchimp cites unfavorable new legal terms in Shopify’s data sharing policies which they were unable to reach an agreement on. (MailChimp’s statement on the matter)

As of today, the Mailchimp app is no longer available in the Shopify app store. And, while it’s still working for current store owners that already had it installed, it will go dark on or before May 5th, 2019.

So if you are running a Shopify store which is connected to Mailchimp, you need to take action as soon as possible: You can either replace Mailchimp’s app with a third-party or custom integration (fee based), or, use this as an opportunity to switch to a different email marketing provider. And that’s exactly what we recommend!

So, which email marketing provider should you switch to? There are many to choose from, and many of them have a Shopify integration. We’ve examined them all, and the one we love and recommend over all the others is Klaviyo.

Here’s why we love Klaviyo as a Shopify email marketing solution:

We started working with Klaviyo (pronounced “clay-vee-oh”) last year and were immediately impressed by the platform, so much so that we began recommending it over MailChimp, our previous go-to for email marketing.

There are many reasons we like Klaviyo. For one, it is deeply integrated with Shopify and features far more in-depth user analytics, a powerful segmentation engine, and rock-solid email automation capabilities. It’s even got some nice list-building features (like pop-ups) which eliminate the need to use an external provider for those. Really, almost any type of marketing email can be quickly deployed with Klaviyo.

But most of all, it’s administrative interface is so much more enjoyable to use. It’s fast, efficient & intuitive…overall, it just feels like a much more serious solution. And their customer service is friendly, helpful, and available most of the time through live chat.

Every client we’ve moved to Klaviyo (vastly) prefers it over MailChimp. Email marketing is one of the most efficient and valuable marketing channels for online stores, so why not use the best tool possible to maximize the opportunity.

Upgrading to Klaviyo

Although this is certainly an unexpected annoyance for the hundreds of thousands of Shopify stores using the MailChimp app, it’s really a great opportunity to upgrade your email marketing using Klavi.

Upgrading to Klaviyo is a fairly straightforward process, but obviously, it needs to be done carefully to ensure your lists and automations are moved over with as minimal friction as possible.
